LAGOM Counselling Logo

Welcome

Lagom is a uniquely Swedish word meaning “not too much, not too little”, i.e. just the right amount – or balance. Balance in life and mind is key to mental well-being. If you are here, I suspect that you may feel a little bit out of balance. Counselling can help you find your true inner self, voice your thoughts in a safe place, find the tools towards change and hence find peace of mind through balance.

Counselling & Coaching

There are as many forms of therapy as there are therapists. My approach is humanistic integrative mixed with coaching, as I believe in the balance of looking to the past and identifying where you want to be in the future, to finding the path in the present which enables your aimed future.

My therapeutic approach is based on:

Every therapeutic journey is enabled through a trusting therapeutic relationship, hence I offer a free introductory call of 15 minutes to get a feel of what therapy would be like together.

About Me

My name is Elin Sweijer and I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor. As the name of my practice implies and my accent reveals, I am Swedish. My upbringing in Sweden has greatly affected my worldview, with an emphasis on equality, inclusion, and “lagom” — i.e. balance in life — enabled by the socialist Welfare state, even if today’s political landscape is far from my values.

The welfare state was enabled by negotiations, dialogue, and raising the voices of all groups in society — not far from the enablers of good therapy.

I grew up with a younger brother who had a rare disease called dystrofia myotonica, which in his case included autism, hence I have chosen to focus on neurodiversity, including ADHD. I always say that my brother has autism rather than is autistic, as I see it as a layer on his personality rather than his whole persona.

Swedes are known for being melancholic, but I rather see it that facing darkness enables you to take in the light. Astrid Lindgren, a famous children’s author and notoriously afraid of death, used to start her daily call with her sister saying “Death Death (Döden Döden)” — because when you voice what you fear it is easier to put it aside and continue with your day.

That is what we do in therapy — we voice your inner thoughts in a safe space so that you can have peace of mind outside of sessions.

Professionally I have a background in marketing, business, and change management in the creative industries, enabled through my Master in Business Management from Uppsala University.

I have always been passionate about psychology and the human mind, hence I embarked on a Bachelor in Psychology, which has been complemented by an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling from CPPD as well as a Diploma in Coaching from RD 45.
